A Guide to Safe Swimming

Beach Flag Colors: Know Before You Swim

Before jumping into the sea, always check the beach flags—they're not just for show. These colored flags warn you about water conditions and help keep you safe.

Here’s what each color means:

🔴 Red Flag – Danger! Do Not Enter the Water

A red flag signals serious danger in the water—usually due to strong currents, high waves, or dangerous weather conditions. It means you must not swim under any circumstances.

🟡 Yellow Flag – Caution: Swim with Care

A yellow flag indicates that conditions are rough, but not extreme. The water is still accessible, but you should be very careful. There may be moderate currents or waves.

🟢 Green Flag – Safe to Swim

A green flag means conditions are calm and safe for swimming. The water is clear, waves are small, and there are no immediate hazards. However, always remain aware of your surroundings.

🔴🔴 Two Red Flags – Beach Closed: Do Not Approach the Water

When you see two red flags crossed, the beach is completely closed. This may be due to severe storms, dangerous marine life (like jellyfish or sharks), or extremely rough sea conditions.

🔴🟡 Red and Yellow Flag (Split Color) – Safe Swimming Zone

A flag that’s half red and half yellow marks the safest area on the beach to swim. Lifeguards are monitoring this zone, and it has been designated as the best place for swimmers.
